Further co-operation between British Airways and Iberia begins this Winter with the announcement of additional code-sharing agreements on five routes from the UK, two routes within Spain and one long-haul route from London to Bermuda.
Eight routes in total are set to carry joint British Airways and Iberia flight codes, allowing both airlines greater presence in each other’s markets.
The code-share routes open for sale on October 6th and will operate from the start of the winter timetable on October 29th.
BA codes will be added to Iberia services between Gatwick-Oviedo and between Palma-Ibiza and Palma-Mahon (all operated by Iberia affiliate Air Nostrum); and the IB code will be added to British Airways flights, operated by franchisee GB Airways, between Gatwick-Faro, Oporto, Palma, Tenerife and between Heathrow-Faro.
British Airways’ four times a week flight from Gatwick to Bermuda will also adopt an Iberia flight code, seeing the beginning of co-operation in the region.
British Airways and Iberia originally signed a co-operative agreement in February last year, when British Airways confirmed it would take a 9 per cent stake in the Spanish airline.
Code-sharing between the two carriers currently extends to 21 routes, mainly covering domestic services connecting at the airline’s hubs at London, Birmingham, Madrid and Barcelona.
