Wheel Clutch Installation Complete

Work on replacing clutches in the 32 passenger capsules of the British Airways London Eye and initial testing has been completed.

Engineers worked round the clock this week to complete the installation by last night (Thursday January 20) to ensure the millennium wheel is on track for the first public rides and previews, including media, from February 1.

The decision to replace all capsule clutches on the world’s biggest observation wheel was taken by British Airways and the design team after suppliers confirmed a clutch manufacturing fault.

David Hyde, Chairman of the British Airways London Eye said: “We have worked round the clock to finish the clutch installation to ensure the London Eye will be on track for ‘soft opening’ in February for limited public rides with full operations in March.”
