Direct Perth-Sydney Flights - Virgin Blue Breaks The Monopoly

Low fares have landed on the Perth-Sydney with Virgin Blue today beginning non-stop flights between the two capital cities, with fares starting from $249* one way.
The new service is the latest on offer out of Perth and follows strong demand from both leisure and business Guests wanting a convenient, comfortable and economical option across the Nullabour.

Virgin Blue has specially configured its brand new 737-800 aircraft to allow extra leg room for the Perth long haul sectors, with a seat pitch between 32 and 33 inches, which is comfortably competitive with the opposition.

Virgin Blue will offer a daily direct service, with the launch flight landing in Perth at the International terminal at 11.55am, for an extended stay to celebrate the new service, before taking off at 1.15pm today. (The regular scheduled 11.55am arrival and 12.30pm departure begins tomorrow.)

Chief Executive Brett Godfrey said, We know what happens on the routes Virgin Blue doesn’t fly and Perth based business travellers have been pushing for a Virgin Blue option on the Perth-Sydney route as it was one of the key trunk routes still subject to a high priced monopoly.

Sydney joins the growing list of destinations Virgin Blue flies to from Perth, including direct services from the W.A. capital to Adelaide and Melbourne and easy and convenient connecting flights to Brisbane, Launceston and the Gold Coast.

While business travellers will be able to stretch their travel budget further, the Perth-Sydney flights are also expected to boost tourism in Western Australia with more visitors able to take advantage of low fares and take a holiday or visit friends and family.

The flights will operate out of the Perth International Terminal while negotiations continue in relation to access to the former Ansett facility.

Brett Godfrey continued, Virgin Blue is working closely with the Westralia Airports Corporation to ensure access to adequate facilities that meet the needs and expectations of travellers and allows us to maintain our low fare structure.

Today’s launch flight is another big step in making sure more Australian’s have the opportunity to take advantage of Virgin Blue’s low fares and high quality service on more routes.
