easyJet Response to Article in Today`s The Times Newspaper

Following a report in today`s The Times newspaper, easyJet would like to reassure passengers that all its pilots adhere to the very highest standards of training and monitoring - and that these standards would never be compromised for commercial reasons. Safety has the highest priority at easyJet - which is reflected in our unblemished safety record to date.

Low-cost airlines increase aircraft utilisation by reducing the time the aircraft spends on the ground at an airport. This is not a safety issue. easyJet aircraft spend the same time in the air as British Airways aircraft on any given route and our pilots are not incentivised in any way to put commercial pressures before safety.

easyJet would take disciplinary against any pilot it found to have ignored the instructions of, or exerted unnecessary pressure on, an air traffic controller.
