Marketing Offensive Continues to have Positive Effect

Passenger volumes January to May almost at previous year’s levels // Load factor for flights over 70 %

Following the increases in the months of March and April, the month of May 2002 witnessed another rise in the total number of passengers carried by the Austrian Airlines Group. With 771,000 passengers, the result for May 2001 was exceeded by 1.1 %, while at the same time the production of seat kilometres was reduced by 5.3 %. As revenue passenger kilometres were just 1.6 % below the previous year’s figure, the overall passenger load factor for the reporting month increased by 2.7 percentage points to 70.5 %.

In the five-month period from January to May 2002, overall transportation volume totalled 3.2 million passengers, just 0.5 % down on the figure for the previous year. It is important to stress that total production of the Austrian Airlines Group in available seat kilometres was reduced by 9.0 %, while revenue passenger kilometres fell by only 7.0 %. In this way, it was possible to increase the passenger load factor by 1.5 percentage points to 69.7 %. The number of flights made to date was 59,248, slightly (0.2 %) above the figure for the corresponding period in 2001. These results are proof of the success of the implementation of the strategic conception in the summer schedule and the recently launched marketing offensive.
