Delta Air Lines Reports May Traffic

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) today reported traffic results for the month of May 2002. System traffic decreased 5.0 percent on a capacity decrease of 7.1 percent from May 2001. Delta’s system load factor was 71.7 percent, up 1.5 points year over year.


Year-over-year traffic and capacity comparisons are impacted by Comair’s suspension of service between March 26, 2001 and July 1, 2001, due to a strike by Comair pilots.


Domestic traffic in May 2002 decreased 3.3 percent on a capacity decrease of 4.8 percent. Domestic load factor was 70.2 percent, up 1.1 points from the same period a year ago. International traffic decreased 9.9 percent on a 13.8 percent decrease in capacity. International load factor was 76.8 percent up 3.3 points from the same period last year.


During May, Delta operated its schedule at a 99.1 percent completion rate, compared to 98.0 percent from May 2001. Delta boarded 9,053,144 passengers during the month of May.
