American Airlines Reports May Traffic

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines reported its systemwide traffic for May decreased 11.1 percent from May 2001, on a capacity decrease of 12.3 percent. The system load factor was 69.5 percent, up 0.9 points from a year ago.

American’s on-time performance, reported to the Department of Transportation, was 84.5, up 4.9 points from May 2001. The airline’s completion factor - the number of flights flown expressed as a percentage of the number of flights scheduled - was 99.3 percent, compared to 97.8 in May 2001.

International traffic in May was down 16.2 percent while international capacity was down 17.9 percent. Domestic traffic was down 9.0 percent year over year on a capacity decrease of 10.0 percent.

American boarded 8.1 million passengers, down 11.1 percent from a year ago.
