Northwest To Fly Summer Weekend Service Between Memphis And Popular Vacation Destinations


MINNEAPOLIS å- (May 21, 2002) å- Northwest Airlines today announced that as part of its summer schedule, it would offer weekend nonstop flights between its Memphis, Tenn. hub and four popular vacation destinations in North America and the Caribbean.


From June through September, Northwest will offer weekend nonstops between Memphis and San Diego, Calif., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The airline also will add weekend nonstops to Miami to complement the one Memphis-Miami flight it operates daily. The flights are conveniently timed for vacationers between the two cities as well as those making connections to and from the 65 cities served by the Northwest and Northwest Airlink network through its hassle-free Memphis hub.


Memphis - San Diego: Northwest’s summer Memphis - San Diego service will be offered on Saturdays from June 15 through September 2, 2002. Flight 1115 will depart Memphis at 12:40 p.m. and arrive San Diego at 2:17 p.m. Flight 1114 will depart San Diego at 2:20 p.m. and return to Memphis at 7:56 p.m. The flight will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft with 148 seats.


Memphis - San Juan: Northwest’s seasonal flights between Memphis and San Juan will be offered on Sundays from June 8 through September 2, 2002. Flight 1508 will depart at 10 a.m. and arrive San Juan, Puerto Rico at 3:10 p.m. Flight 1509 will depart San Juan at 4:30 p.m. and arrive Memphis at 7:46 p.m. The flight will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft.


Memphis - Vancouver: The airline’s summer Memphis - Vancouver service will be offered on Saturdays from June 8 through September 2, 2002. Flight 1901 will depart Memphis at 9:35 a.m. and arrive in Vancouver at 12:20 p.m. Flight 1900 will depart Vancouver at 1:20 p.m. and arrive in Memphis at 7:41 p.m. The flight will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft.

Memphis - Miami: In addition to the one daily flight Northwest operates between Memphis and Miami, it will offer an additional flight on the weekends to meet the needs of travelers visiting Florida or embarking on a cruise. The weekend nonstops will be offered from June 8 through September 2, 2002. Flight 1812 will depart Memphis at 8:45 a.m. and arrive Miami at 12:07 p.m. Flight 1811 will depart Miami at 2:10 p.m. and arrive in Memphis at 3:35 p.m. The flight will be operated with a DC9 aircraft with 100 seats.

On June 7, Northwest will restore its evening schedule of nonstop service from its Memphis hub in response to customer demand for flights later in the day. Approximately half of the flights to the 54 destinations throughout the United States will be operated by Northwest and the remainder by its Northwest Airlink regional partners. Northwest’s evening schedule will create more flight choices for customers traveling to or from Memphis, as well as additional connection opportunities for customers traveling across the U.S.


Northwest is offering double frequent flier miles on entire one-way itineraries within the 50 United States and Canada that include travel through Memphis, Tenn.
