The Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Airlines (SIA) this evening announced the renewal of SIA`s sponsorship of the $3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup, which from this year, is part of the prestigious World Series Racing Championship. The World Series Racing Championship is a global event linking the world’s top international thoroughbred races in an annual championship.
SIA`s continuing sponsorship of the Cup for another three years from 2003 to 2005, was sealed today at a signing ceremony officiated by Mr Yu Pang Fey, President and Chief Executive, Singapore Turf Club and Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines` Executive Vice-President (Marketing and the Regions). The renewal will see SIA sponsor the richest race in Singapore and one of the richest races in the world.
Commenting on the sponsorship renewal, Mr Yu said, “The Club is delighted to continue its association with Singapore Airlines. Since the inaugural run of the Singapore Airlines International Cup in 2000 to celebrate the official opening of the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji, the Cup has grown from strength to strength and has annually attracted top horses, as well as world-renowned jockeys and trainers, from all over the world. The Club would like to express its appreciation to Singapore Airlines for renewing their valued sponsorship of the Singapore Airlines International Cup for a further three years to 2005.”
Mr Huang expressed his delight, “The Singapore Airlines International Cup was accorded International Group One status by the International Cataloguing Standards Committee in June 2001, and its subsequent inclusion in the prestigious World Racing Series Championship will definitely attract more top names from the international racing circuit, and give visitors another reason to come to Singapore. Our renewal of sponsorship provides us with another opportunity to support Singapore’s growing tourism industry, and strengthen Singapore’s growing status as a world-class cultural and sporting event city. This will also surely help to enhance SIA’s brand presence worldwide.”
Presently, the Singapore Airlines International Cup is already telecast, on both live and delayed basis, to an estimated three billion potential viewers around the world, about three times that for the first inaugural race in 2000. The size of this international audience, which will continue to grow, coupled with the brand names of Singapore Turf Club and SIA, will ensure that the race becomes an internationally-recognised event.
