Delta Air Lines Chief Financial Officer M. Michele Burns Rings The Opening Bell At New York Stock Ex

NEW YORK, April 17, 2002—Delta Air Lines Chief Financial Officer M. Michele Burns today rang The Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange, celebrating the airline’s 45th listing anniversary (NYSE:DAL).

Since Delta first offered its stock on April 17,1957, the company has grown from a small, regional carrier to the world’s second largest carrier in terms of passengers carried. Burns was joined on the bell-ringing balcony by six employees from across the company, several celebrating 40 and more years of service, and by Mary Johnston Evans, member of Delta’s Board of Directors.

Burns has played an instrumental role in Delta’s financial success since she joined the airline in January 1999 as vice president - Corporate Taxes. Burns was named chief financial officer in August with broad responsibility for finance, supply chain management, e-business, fleet management, corporate real estate and Delta Technology, the airline’s technology subsidiary. In addition, Burns serves on the Board of Directors of Worldspan and Orbitz.

Last fall, Burns led the development of Delta’s equipment-enhanced trust certificate (EETC), settled on Sept. 17, 2001. The International Financing Review (IFR) recently recognized Delta and the EETC with its 2001 U.S. investment-grade corporate bond of the year. Burns’ efforts to settle the $1.2 billion transaction provided the airline with additional liquidity immediately following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The IFR also recognized the EETC’s role in helping to get the nation’s capital markets back on track, reinforcing Delta’s leadership in the airline industry and among all U.S. corporations.
