American Airlines Announces Change In Travel Agent Commission

Fort Worth, Texas - American Airlines announced today that it will no longer pay base commission for tickets issued by travel agents in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada.

The change, which takes effect March 18, 2002, applies to all tickets for both domestic and international travel, Miscellaneous Charges Orders (MCO`s), Prepaid Ticket Advices (PTA`s) and bookings made via the internet. The change does not affect the base commission policy for tickets purchased outside of the United States and Canada.

American will have no further comment on this matter. Travel agents may obtain additional information by referring to the key word “commission” on the Direct Reference System (DRS) of the computer reservations system.
