US Airways Restores Trans-Atlantic Servic

US Airways will restore most of its transatlantic operations over the next three months with the return of flights between the U.S. and Europe that were suspended temporarily following the reduction in traffic after September 11.

Roundtrip transatlantic flights will increase from the current 61 weekly to 98 weekly with the return of daily frequencies serving US Airways` key destinations in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands from its international gateways of Charlotte, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.


For the summer schedule, US Airways also will reintroduce its larger state-of-the-art Airbus A330-300 aircraft on many routes, supplementing U.S.-Europe operations using Boeing 767-200 aircraft.


Effective March 16, US Airways will restore daily nonstop roundtrip service between its primary international gateway at Philadelphia and Amsterdam, Munich and Madrid, using Boeing 767-200 aircraft, and Rome, with A330-300 aircraft. US Airways` routes serving Amsterdam, Rome and Madrid currently operate with five flights weekly, and Munich is served with four flights weekly.


Also on March 16, US Airways will resume daily nonstop roundtrip flights from Pittsburgh to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, using Boeing 767 equipment; and to London Gatwick Airport with A330-300s. Pittsburgh-Paris service was suspended in December 2001, and Pittsburgh-London flights were suspended in February 2002.

On May 4, daily nonstop flights will return between Charlotte and Frankfurt (suspended in October 2001), using Boeing 767 aircraft. Also on May 4, daily nonstop Charlotte-London Gatwick capacity will expand from Boeing 767 to A330-300 operations.


A second daily Philadelphia-London service, using Boeing 767 aircraft, starting on June 16, will mark the completion of US Airways` increased transatlantic program for 2002.


From Philadelphia, the airline will this summer operate daily nonstop flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Madrid, Manchester and Munich, in addition to twice-daily flights serving London. From Charlotte, US Airways will operate daily service to London and Frankfurt, and from Pittsburgh the airline will offer daily service to Frankfurt, London and Paris.


US Airways, the US Airways Express carriers and US Airways Shuttle provide service to 205 destinations worldwide, including 38 states in the U.S., Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Cancun, Cozumel, Freeport, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Nassau, San Juan, Santo Domingo, St. Croix, St. Lucia, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. US Airways Express also serves North Eleuthera, Governors Harbour, Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay from Florida. In Canada, US Airways serves Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.
