Southwest Airlines Celebrates Ten Years in Cleveland


Southwest Airlines
(NYSE: LUV) and its 79 local Employees will celebrate ten years of service and
growth at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport today.

“Our Employees have made the Cleveland market incredibly successful for
Southwest,” said Dave Ridley, Southwest`s vice president of ground operations.
“We are pleased to bring our legendary low fares and frequent service to our
Cleveland Customers year after year.”

Southwest Airlines began service to Cleveland Hopkins International
Airport in 1992 with ten daily nonstop flights to Chicago Midway and St.
Louis.  Currently, Southwest operates 21 daily nonstop flights to Chicago
Midway, St. Louis, Nashville, and Baltimore/Washington, with direct or
connecting service to 41 cities nationwide.  The airline occupies four gates
at the airport.

Other noteworthy statistics about Southwest in Cleveland:
  - Before Southwest began service in Cleveland, only 356,840 Customers traveled to Southwest`s nonstop destinations as of second quarter of 1991.  Ten years later during the second quarter of 2001, the number of Customers traveling to these cities has increased 204 percent to 1,086,260.

- Statistics for these individual cities are more amazing.  Since the first quarter of 1991, Southwest increased traffic from Cleveland to Baltimore/Washington by 627 percent. Similarly, traffic between Cleveland and Chicago Midway has increase 354 percent.
- In 2001, Southwest`s direct economic impact in Cleveland was more than $13.9 million (salaries and benefits paid to Employees, fuel, landing fees, and other expenditures). Southwest also has an investment commitment of more than $64.9 million in Company resources dedicated to Cleveland.

Southwest Airlines is celebrating its tenth anniversary in Cleveland with

Cleveland for ten wonderful years.  Southwest, the fourth largest airline in
terms of Customers boarded, currently serves 58 destinations in 30 states.
