Hold The Phone - Qantas CityFlyer Takes Off For Brisbane

The first Qantas Brisbane CityFlyer service takes off tomorrow along with a mobile phone initiative that is a first for Australia.

Qantas Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing John Borghetti said that from tomorrow, all Qantas CityFlyer customers in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne would be able to use their mobile phones while boarding aircraft via aerobridges and inside the aircraft until the time the doors of the aircraft closed.

“This change to our mobile phone policy, made with the cooperation of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), will allow business travellers to make better use of their travel time,” he said.

“CityFlyer customers will be the first to evaluate the new policy, but we expect to be able to extend the service to customers on other domestic services by the end of the month.

“As a further enhancement to our CityFlyer service, each week day we will be offering newspapers to CityFlyer customers travelling between 6.00 am and 9.00 am,” he said.

Mr Borghetti said Brisbane CityFlyer customers could also expect:

* flights between Brisbane and Sydney every half hour during peak times and every hour at other times;
* hourly flights between Brisbane and Melbourne;
* dedicated departure gates and baggage carousels;
* dedicated check-in and customer service desk at the departure gates; and
* stand-alone, easy-to-read information screens
“The Sydney-Melbourne CityFlyer service, launched in July last year, has been a great success. This service was designed with the busy traveller in mind, and allows customers the quickest and easiest way to travel between Sydney, Melbourne and now Brisbane,” Mr Borghetti said.
