Singapore Airlines Announces Service Adjustments

Late last year, Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced a series of service reductions on a number of routes to better match capacity with demand. SIA has since been closely monitoring the market’s development, including the impact of marketing initiatives implemented to stimulate the market and restore consumer confidence in international travel.
Following are the capacity changes to cater to the improving travel market conditions for the forthcoming Northern Spring/Summer season.
ASIA - From 31 March 2002, SIA will add two B777 services a week to Shanghai, making a total of 12 B777 services a week to China’s prime commercial city. In addition, two of the current daily A310 services to Guangzhou will be upgraded to B777 aircraft. The extra capacity is intended to cater to the growing demand on the Singapore/China route.
Services between Singapore and Osaka via Bangkok, which were earlier reduced from daily to five times a week, will be reinstated to daily from 31 March, 2002.
A third weekly service to Hiroshima will be reintroduced from 28 April, 2002, following an understanding reached between SIA and the Hiroshima Prefecture Government and the local travel industry to enhance their collective effort to stimulate the market to Singapore. The flight frequency between Singapore and Hiroshima was reduced from four to two times a week late last year.
Services to the popular tourist destination of Bali, which were earlier reduced from 28 times to 25 times a week, will revert to 28 times (or four times daily) from 31 March, 2002.
NORTH AMERICA - The Singapore-Amsterdam-New York (Newark Airport) service which late last year was reduced to three weekly from four a week will have the fourth weekly service (every Tuesday) reinstated from 19 March, 2002.
In addition, the Singapore-Taipei-Los Angles service which was reduced from a daily to five times a week, has reverted to a daily operation from 1 February, 2002. Also, the Singapore-Tokyo-Los Angeles service which was reduced from a daily to five a week, will revert to a daily operation from 31 March, 2002.
