Expedia to Form Marketing Alliance with CitySearch.com

Expedia
is to form a cross-marketing alliance with online events and entertainment guide Citysearch
and further develop its tie-up to sell tickets from Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster
is already experimenting with ways to sell select tickets to sporting events and the theater through Expedia?fs Web site. The alliance between Expedia and Ticketmaster?fs Citysearch marks the first such deal between the two USA Interactive holdings, and follows an offer from USA Interactive on Monday to buy full control of the companies, along with another of its majority-owned units, Hotels.com
.
Expedia and Ticketmaster were grouped together in February when USA Interactive bought a majority stake in Expedia from Microsoft. Expedia will use Citysearch as its preferred provider of local information and advice, which will be available on Expedia.com later this summer.

USA Interactive launched three simultaneous exchange offers Monday that proposed a 7.5% premium for each of the units, although on Wednesday the company announced that it is delaying any immediate action to acquire all the outstanding shares in Expedia, Hotels.com and Ticketmaster.
