Datalex (ISE: DLE), a leading provider of technology solutions for the global travel industry, announced today that it has signed a major technology deal with Saudi Arabian Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the Middle East, carrying over 13 million passengers a year.
“It is very encouraging to see the world`s leading airlines including Saudi Arabian Airlines actively pursuing their e-Commerce strategies and opening up new distribution channels to interact with their customers,” said Neil Beck
, CEO, Datalex.
The agreement, which is Datalex`s first major contract in the Middle East, represents the beginning of an initiative by Datalex in this market.
“Datalex is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities and challenges presented by the Middle Eastern market which will enable us to continue our strong growth within all sectors of the industry,” said Neil Wilson, head of Datalex`s Sales and Business Development initiatives, speaking at the airline`s global sales conference in Jeddah, where there was a particular emphasis on e-Commerce within the airline industry. “We have recently appointed Altar in Turkey, as value added reseller of Datalex`s technology and are reviewing other distributor relationships throughout the rest of the Middle East.”
Saudi Arabian Airlines
have contracted Datalex
to develop an Internet Booking Engine to connect to its own SARS reservation system using the latest version of the Datalex BookIt! CONSUMER Internet Booking Engine and BookIt! MATRIX integration platform. The booking engine provides support for Arabic, which is a critical requirement for this market.
The booking engine will also link into Saudi Arabian Airlines` frequent flyer program Al Fursan, providing the airline`s most important customers with a new level of service, all built around an enjoyable online experience. The product will be initially launched in the domestic Saudi Arabian market, which accounts for most of Saudi Arabian Airlines` sales. The rollout to international markets will follow shortly after that. Datalex will host the booking engine for Saudi Arabian Airlines at its world-class hosting facilities in Atlanta, USA.
“We are the largest airline in the Middle East and proud to have our own Internet booking engine,” said Dr. Khaled A. Ben-Bakr, Director General, Saudi Arabian Airlines. “It is one more step in providing better service to our valued customers and a reaffirmation of our commitment to provide them with the latest and most efficient technological tools available in the industry, making their travel with Saudi Arabian Airlines a truly efficient and memorable experience,” he added.
