Virgin Blue to Optimize Network With Sabre AirPath

Sabre Holdings Corporation (NYSE: TSG) today announced the successful first-phase implementation of Sabre(R) AirPath(TM) flight planning and dispatch system for Virgin Blue Airlines.

The installation moves Virgin Blue to a state-of-the-art flight planning system, which allows the airline to operate more profitable flight segments and to create more efficient flight plans.

According to Michael Baldwin, Sabre, Asia Pacific vice president, AirPath optimizes flight planning with proven cost reductions for airlines. “The AirPath system will provide Virgin Blue with an extensive range of capabilities that best maximize payload capability while simultaneously controlling fuel, time and cost.

“The system will ensure precise calculation of enroute, contingency, alternate and emergency related fuels.”

John Crane, Head of Navigation Services for Virgin Blue, believes the features of AirPath meet the airline`s needs and positioning for future growth.

“Our adoption of AirPath is sure to fit comfortably with our internal operations while ultimately enhancing our guest`s experience by ensuring the shortest flight time under prevailing conditions is achieved. In-house flight planning assists the airline to maintain a profitable cost base, as it reduces fuel consumption, which in turn helps Virgin Blue keep air fares low for travelers,” he said.

Installation of the AirPath system across Virgin Blue`s entire network has just been completed.
This announcement follows Virgin Blue`s participation in the Sabre Global Distribution System (GDS), the first time the airline has entered an agreement with a GDS. Corporate travel agents are now able to book Virgin Blue seats through Sabre`s computerized reservations system, opening up seats to corporate and international travelers.

John Crane added, “We are committed to using the best technology available in the world and the introduction of this new Sabre system puts Virgin Blue at the cutting edge of flight planning technology.”
