Amadeus, a leading global distribution system (GDS) and travel industry technology provider, announces that bmi british midland, the UKå?Ls second largest airline, has successfully migrated its sales and distribution solutions to Amadeus and has thereby become an Amadeus System User airline.
The industry unique Amadeus System User concept with its global reach enables airlines to outsource all sales and distribution services while maintaining control of all core and commercially sensitive functions.
The Amadeus System User concept facilitates airlines to integrate with travel agencies that use the Amadeus system for their reservations. Such airlines have access to the most complete sales and distribution system available. As a consequence, bmi british midland will significantly reduce time to market for its products, and will be able to offer enhanced levels of customer service.
Equally significant, the System User concept also facilitates interaction between airline alliance members. As bmi british midland is a Star Alliance member, this now means that today, seven out of the fifteen Star Alliance members are Amadeus System Users. By becoming a System User, bmi british midland will be able to interface with these airlines in a totally seamless and transparent manner. As a result, bmi british midland will benefit from a significant reduction in internal processing and servicing tasks and be able to dedicate more time and effort to ensure the needs of Star Alliance customers are fully met.
Richard Dawson, IT director for bmi british midland said ?gbmi`s move to the new Amadeus system will, for the first time, allow us to begin to offer the seamless travel experience which is the foundation upon which Star Alliance is built. Our ticket desks will be able to enjoy improved access to the reservations and fares data of our partner airlines, which in turn will bring service enhancements such as real time seat confirmation. bmi can now look forward to launching further system enhancements and developments to help ease the travel process of our global customers,” he added.
Hans Jorgensen, VP Airline Business Group for Amadeus, commented, ?gOur strategy is to offer customers a range of flexible IT solutions. Jointly with Lufthansa Systems, Amadeus will create an efficient and cost effective solution for all the passenger management requirements of bmi british midland. By sharing the same reservation platform with other members of the Star Alliance, the System User concept will deliver instant and quantifiable costs savings.
Hans Jorgensen also pointed out that ?gin a climate where airlines are seeking ways to maximise efficiency and harness cost savings, outsourcing information technology is an option many carriers are evaluating and the System User Concept is a proven solution that meets their precise needs.?h
“From a UK perspective we are absolutely delighted to be working with bmi british midland,” commented Arnaud Debuchy, managing director, Amadeus UK. “Over the last twelve months we have aggressively grown our market presence and are now well on the way to securing our goal of 25% market share by the end of 2004. Amadeus now works with the top two UK airlines, placing us significantly ahead of our competition. This latest signing demonstrates that Amadeus is the only GDS capable of meeting the varying needs of the global travel industry. We look forward to working closely with all at bmi british midland to develop this key relationship.”
