Travelbyus hired cruise industry veteran Shawn Tubman to lead Cruise Shoppes, its division of travel agencies that specialize in cruises.
Tubman has been in the cruise industry 21 years, most recently as vice president of sales for Norwegian Cruise Line.
As reported, Gary Brown, former Cruise Shoppes president, resigned from Travelbyus in November, in the midst of Travelbyus financial troubles that led to the sudden closure of its Global Leisure tour operator division. The company since has undergone a restructuring that officials say put it on solid financial ground.
A Travelbyus spokesman said Tubman not only will oversee operations for Cruise Shoppes and its 455 members, but also for the other Travelbyus cruise-oriented consortium, Galaxsea.
That group is being rolled “under the Cruise Shoppes umbrella,” he said.
Together, there are an estimated 600 cruise-oriented Travelbyus agencies, he said.
Tubman`s duties will include vendor relations, marketing, automation and new business development.
The spokesman said the Travelbyus consortia, acquired in the last two years, have now been divided into two divisions: the cruise group, headed by Tubman, and the full service agencies that are part of International Tours and Bell Travel Systems, headed by Ron Blaylock.
