Lucent Selects Concur’s Employee-facing Xpense Management Solution for Travel Expense Automation

11th Jan 1999

Concur Technologies (Nasdaq: CNQR), a leading provider of employee-facing business applications, today announced that Lucent Technologies - the global provider of communications networking and technology - has selected Concur’s Xpense Management Solution (XMS) to automate its expense management processes. The global implementation of XMS supports Lucent’s goal of increasing employee productivity throughout the entire organization of over 140,000 employees.

“We realized that the standardization of our global process would allow our employees to put their energy into more productive business functions rather than administrative work,” stated Roberta Samples, director of global accounts payable for Lucent.

Lucent required one global solution that would simplify the entire expense management process while providing smooth integration into the back-end system. “XMS provided an intranet-based solution that we could deploy across every desktop - we did not want to exclude any part of our global population,” said Samples.

Lucent expects the benefits of XMS to be twofold, beginning with simplifying procedures for employees to submit and approve expense reports - which supports Lucent’s goal of enhancing employee productivity. Also, the company expects XMS to provide an increased ability to control travel expenses through policy compliance and travel vendor negotiations.

“The implementation of XMS at Lucent will represent one of the industry’s largest intranet business application deployments to date,” commented Steve Singh, president and CEO of Concur. “Concur’s history of intranet business application deployment success paired with Lucent’s initiative to create additional efficiencies company-wide will bring tremendous operational value to Lucent.”

About XMS
Concur’s Xpense Management Solution is the proven enterprise travel expense business application that dramatically reduces travel and entertainment costs by automating the entire travel expense management process. XMS is the first global travel expense automation software that can run via a corporate intranet, Windows, or both. With XMS, preparing expense reports is easier and travelers are reimbursed faster. Accounting is more productive because expense reports are delivered online and automatically link to financial systems, eliminating the need to re-key data. Corporate travel policies are imbedded to provide management and accounting with tools to quickly identify non-compliant expenses. With robust expense data easily accessible, management can analyze travel spending and negotiate better vendor rates.
