America Online, Inc., the world`s leading interactive services company, announced today the launch of “Rediscover America,” a new travel program available through AOL Travel, the No. 1 online travel destination, aimed at encouraging consumers to “rediscover” American destinations.
Starting this holiday season, AOL is teaming up with its travel partners and other leading airline, hotel and tourism companies to offer AOL members exclusive opportunities to win trips and discounts on airfare, transportation, and lodging for popular American tourist destinations.
In addition, AOL Travel is launching a new “Quick Getaways” feature to provide people with ideas and recommendations for alternate vacations and destinations that are closer to home. In a recent AOL Travel poll, 30% of AOL members said they have modified their travel plans to stay closer to home this holiday season and 35% say they may vacation closer to home in the future.
“Our goal this holiday season and beyond is to reconnect consumers to the idea of traveling, while helping our partners and the travel industry reconnect to consumers,” said Jeff DeKorte, Executive Director of AOL Travel. “Certainly, people are still going to travel and we hope our AOL Travel offerings, including `Rediscover America` and `Quick Getaways,` are an extra enticement for them to take a trip across the country or enjoy a fun weekend getaway.”
Rediscover America is available exclusively to AOL members on the AOL Travel Channel (AOL Keyword: Travel) and focuses on a different American destination each week. The program features a trivia quiz highlighting key facts and information about each destination and various sweepstakes for free trips and special discounts on airfares, hotels, rental cars and more. AOL Travel will offer Rediscover America promotions through the holiday season and into next year.
Delta Air Lines is the first partner to participate in Rediscover America. Now through Thursday, December 20, AOL Travel and Delta Air Lines are inviting AOL members to rediscover New York City. AOL members will have the chance to win one of 125 New York trips, which are also part of a “Delta Loves New York” giveaway campaign. Each prize package includes two round-trip flights on Delta to New York City, two free passes to the world-famous Guggenheim Museum, and an MCI calling card.

For those travelers choosing to stay closer to home, AOL Travel`s Quick Getaways (AOL Keyword: Quick Getaways) presents people with themed ideas for mini-vacations, day trips and road trips that are within easy and quick reach of their hometown. Quick Getaways will offer AOL members seasonal suggestions for all major U.S. cities throughout the year, such as ski weekends, family road trips, romantic escapes, shopping, weekends by the water, and fall pleasures.
The first “Quick Getaways” theme is “Winter Together.” It focuses on day trips and affordable short breaks couples and families can take together during the winter months, from holiday light displays to nearby ski resorts and quiet spa getaways.
