Caribbean Star shows signs of improvement

On the third anniversary of the Caribbean Star commuter air service, Paul Moreira, the airline`s president and CEO is reporting growth for the regional airline, which is backed by the wealthy American-Antiguan businessman, Allen Stanford.

Speaking on New York radio this week, Moreira, a former senior executive with Air Jamaica Express, said business has been strong enough to prompt his board to approve the acquisition of additional DASH-8 aircraft in a month`s time.

“While the rest of the world has seen a deterioration in traffic, in the OECS (Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States) we have actually seen a 10-15 percent increase in passengers after the events of September 11 (2001),” said Moreira, who explained that although revenue yields have been depressed, the increased load factors have been positive for the airline`s bottom line.
