It has been suggested that the construction of the new Head Office for Caribbean Star, just outside the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, is set to begin shortly following the acquisition of the title to the property by the Stanford Financial Group.

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas said Monday that the handing over of the deed for the construction of the new building will provide additional employment opportunities for the people in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Dr. Douglas made brief remarks following the signing with Caribbean Star`s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Moriera in the Airport`s VIP Lounge. Witnessing and participating in the signing of the legal documents were Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor; Attorney General, Hon. Delano Bart; Stanford Financial Group General Counsel, Mr. Maurico Alvarado; Chairman of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority, Mr. Peter Jenkins and barrister at law, Ms. Marcella Liburd.
“I want to thank you again for holding to your commitment and I am assured that with the kind of support that we have seen so far, the completion of this project will take place in good time,” said Prime Minister Douglas as he handed over the deed for the land.
“Today becomes a very, very, important day, not only in the lives of the people who will be using this airport, but in the life of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis in general,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who thanked the Stanford Financial Group for holding to their commitment.
He said it was reassuring that with the kind of support so far, the completion of the project will take place in good time.
Mr. Alvarado said the Stanford Financial Group appreciates the continued cooperation of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and said the company looks forward to a good relationship with the people of the twin-island Federation.

Caribbean Star`s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Moriera told the Communications Unit of the Prime Minister`s Office that the property will be soon be fenced and construction should begin within seven days.

He said Prime Minister Douglas and the President of the Stanford Financial Group, Mr. Allen Stanford will participate in a ground breaking ceremony in two weeks time.

“We are committed that within 12 months we will have the facility up and running and our commitment stays true to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Government that within the next 12 months Caribbean Star`s Head Office, which will cost some US$10 million facility, will be completed here in St. Kitts and Nevis and this shows our commitment,” said Mr. Moriera.
He added that Caribbean Star will continue to improve service levels and traffic levels into St. Kitts and Nevis to assist in the economic development of the Federation.

250 local construction workers are expected to be employed during the construction phase.
