Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards was named one of the most powerful women in tourism by Travel Agent Magazine, for the third consecutive year. The nomination reflects Richards` commitment to increasing visitation to the U.S. Virgin Islands and promoting the territory as America`s Caribbean. Richards is one of more than 100 women chosen from all segments of the travel industry for this prestigious honor.
Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards stated, “The women that have been chosen represent every element of the tourism industry. I have such a great respect for all of them and am grateful to be among them.”
The selection appears in the magazine`s September 22 special theme issue, The Most Powerful Women in Travel. This issue is the eighth annual Most Powerful Women of Travel edition of Travel Agent magazine. Editors of the magazine selected travel`s most powerful women according to their responsibilities, industry clout and accomplishments over the past year. The women chosen this year endured and excelled during especially difficult times for the travel industry.
In addition to overseeing tourism`s advertising and marketing efforts, Commissioner Richards also serves as the Caribbean Tourism Organisation`s first vice-chair. In addition, she serves as chairperson of the Governing Board of the Virgin Islands Port Authority and is an appointed member of Salt River Bay National Historic Park & Ecological Preserve on St. Croix. Richards currently serves as a member of the Virgin Islands Human Resource Investment Council and a board member of Our Town Frederiksted, Inc. and United Way of St. Croix.
