Divi St. Maarten to Host 2003 Sunfish World Championships

For the first time Divi Little Bay Beach Resort in St. Maarten will host the 2003 Sunfish World Championships, October 10 å- 19, 2003.

It is the first time this event will be held in St. Maarten, with racing taking place off of Fort Amsterdam.
The St. Maarten Yacht Club will be the host club and the International Sunfish Class Association (ISCA) is organising the event.
Divi Little Bay will host the event’s opening ceremony including a skipper’s briefing on October 11 as well as the closing ceremony which will include an awards presentation on October 18.  Approximately 250 people are expected to attend each event, which will take place poolside.

The resort will also host the event’s final dinner and throughout the week will offer special BBQ lunches.

As of the end of August, fifty-three entries from seven countries had registered to participate in the event, including Cor van Aanholt, the 1980 winner of the Sunfish World Championships as well as last year’s winner and seven time Sunfish Champion, 31-year-old Eduardo Cordero from Venezuela.
