USVI Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards has announced that the beaches of St. John and St. Thomas were named two of the top-ten beaches in the United States, according to a survey conducted by Yahoo! Travel and National Geographic Traveler.
The 2003 study surveyed 2,200 Americans and asked which U.S. beach destinations they believed to be the most beautiful. The destination beaches were judged according to cleanliness, scenery, water temperature, climate and romantic atmosphere. The survey results can be seen in the July issue of National Geographic Traveler. In addition, Keith Bellows, Editor in Chief for National Geographic Traveler, recently discussed the outcome of the survey during an interview that appeared on several FOX affiliates.
“Our white-sand beaches are just one part of the natural beauty available for visitors to enjoy in the USVI,” Commissioner Richards said. “Being named to National Geographic Traveler and Yahoo! Travel`s Top-Ten United States Beaches is an honor, and we hope that this tribute will entice more visitors to discover the beauty and tranquility of America`s Caribbean.”
