SuperClubs Continues Latin American Expansion

14th May 2003

SuperClubs Super-Inclusive Resorts will triple the number of its resorts in Brazil by 2004. A minimum of 1,246 new hotel rooms will be added with these new ventures, representing a 23 percent growth rate for a total of 6,694 rooms system-wide in six countries by the end of next year.

SuperClubs’ sole property in Bahia, the 324-room Breezes Costa Do Sauipe that opened on September 29, 2000, will be joined by two new developments on Brazil’s easternmost coast. Breezes Cumbuco is located 19 miles west of Fortaleza and will feature 253 suites and villas. In addition to enjoying white sand beaches and tranquil lagoons, guests at the resort will have a choice of three restaurants, a wide array of land and water sports and a full-service spa. Breezes Cumbuco will be equipped with Camp Breezes kids facilities, welcoming singles, couples and families.

In the summer of 2004, Starfish Mura Alto will open its doors in Recife with 252 rooms, including 60 cottages. This 16-acre beachfront family-friendly resort is 15 minutes from Porto de Galinhas Vila, the region’s commercial center. SuperClubs manages Starfish resorts as an affiliate three-star, all-inclusive brand. The popular venture was launched on February 14, 2002, with Starfish Trelawny in Jamaica.
Also in Brazil, the new Sonesta Sao Paulo opens June 2003. This 18-story 310-room hotel will be the first city center hotel to be managed by SuperClubs. Located in Moema in southern Sao Paulo, Sonesta Sao Paulo will target business travelers and feature in-room internet access, business center, fitness center, indoor heated pool, sauna, onsite restaurant and eight meetings rooms for groups of up to 80 theatre-style. SuperClubs signed a master franchise agreement with Sonesta International Hotels two years ago, to jointly develop city hotels in Brazil. Additional SuperClubs-managed Sonesta hotels are under development in Recife and Brazil’s capital city of Brasilia.
The Grand Lido brand is also expanding to St. Kitts, where Grand Lido St. Kitts is under development in Frigate Bay.
These expansion plans continue the trend for SuperClubs, which added four resorts and two island destinations in the one-year period of December 2001 - December 2002. SuperClubs’ current portfolio of resorts open and operational include:
