The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) has announced the appointment of Julia Hendry
to the new position of director of marketing for Europe, for the 32-member nation organisation. Hendry will take up the position on 12 May 2003.

Hendry will lead the CTO`s enhanced thrust in Europe including designing, implementing and managing the organisation`s strategic marketing and public relations program’s for all European markets, including the UK. She will be based in London and report to CTO Headquarters in Barbados.

Prior to joining the CTO, Hendry was the tourism development manager for the Gibraltar Tourism Board, and preceding that, was executive manager of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO). Hendry holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and is a Member of the Institute of Marketing; she has spent much of the past 20 years working in the travel industry and has travelled extensively in the Caribbean.

Jean Holder, secretary general of the CTO said: “We are very pleased to have secured Ms. Hendry`s expertise after a lengthy and exhaustive search in which we drew interest from many individuals”.

“I believe that both her intimate knowledge of the Caribbean and the European markets will be a major advantage as CTO moves to enhance operations in Europe”.
Jo Spalburg, who has been at the helm of the CTO in the UK and Europe for nearly seven years in various roles, plans to move to the Caribbean and continue working in the Caribbean tourism industry.

Spalburg said: “The CTO has gone from strength to strength over the past decade, ensuring the Caribbean endures as one of the top leisure destinations for UK travellers.
The active members of the CTO UK Chapter have built their organisation into a pro-active, professional marketing co-operative. By taking up new challenges in the Caribbean I look forward to continuing to make a positive contribution to the region`s tourism development.”
