After much effort over the past few years by CHA and the Caribbean Council, the European Union has approved a grant of US$8 million to the Caribbean Tourism Industry.
Of this, $3 million has been allocated to CHA
for the implementation of environmental, product development and institutional strengthening programs, including the national hotel associations. 
CTO
and CARIFORUM are the other beneficiaries of the grant, given under the 8th European Development Fund
, (EDF), of the European Union. CTO and CHA will work together to identify commonalities and maximize the funding, rather than duplicating the efforts. This is the first joint private/public sector approach to funding agencies and it is hoped that it will help to strengthen the relationship between the two.
