Bahamas World Music & Jazz Festival Comes To The Bahamas

Nassau, The Bahamas—Just when we thought The Islands of the Bahamas couldn`t possibly get any better, they mix an ideal destination, with dynamic music and unsurpassed talent, and prove yet again that “It Just Keeps Getting Better”. From November 6th to November 10th, 2002 The Islands of The Bahamas will introduce the first of their annual Bahamas World Music & Jazz Festival.
This year`s schedule of events will be hosted on the lovely New Providence Island, and will feature music from the worlds of Jazz, Hip Hop, Gospel, Latin, Reggae, Calypso and R&B. This year The Bahamas World Music & Jazz Festival will follow through with the self-explanatory theme “Exploring Afro Caribbean Cultural Roots”. This extraordinary five-day event will highlight a number of world-renowned musical artists including, but not limited to, the vivacious voices of Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Jonathan Butler, Nancy Wilson, Anslem Douglas, and Luciano.
In addition to this long list of brilliant and gifted artists, The Bahamas World Music and Jazz Festival will also feature some legendary artists from Cuba. Among them include, Compay Segundo, Los Papines, Son Damas, and Habana Sax. And as we save the best for last - The Bahamas` very own Visage, Ronnie Butler, Abigail Chalow, Treasure, Sensay and the Bahamas National Youth and Gospel Choirs, will come center stage at this grand event.
This year`s event will lay a foundation for the future festivals yet to come and will show significant increases in the numbers attending as well as display growth in the overall festival, in terms of the magnitude of performers. It is expected that this annual event will eventually be hosted at some of the other Islands of The Bahamas. The Bahamas World Music & Jazz Festival promises to significantly impact local businesses such as: hotels, air travel, restaurants, retail shops, and shopping centers.
Some of the on-island hotel sponsors and venues are The British Colonial Hilton, The Nassau Beach Hotel, and The Nassau Marriott & Crystal Palace Casino, (soon to be named The Nassau Wyndham, 10/31/02). Concerts will also be held at Clifford Park, Fort Charlotte, where special facilities will be erected. Tickets to the various events can be purchased at any of these hotels or from selected locations on New Providence.
The Islands of The Bahamas are comprised of over seven hundred islands and cays, and offer many different experiences.
