Caribbean Star Uniting the Caribbean

Caribbean Star continued its thrust of regional unification, not merely through transportation and tourism, but in the education of our youth.

Having received the endorsement of the Ministry of Education in Dominica, Caribbean Star Airlines sponsored an essay-writing competition among Dominica’s secondary school students in Forms 1-3. The competition challenged the young minds to write an essay of no more than 500 words on the topic, “What makes the Caribbean the most wonderful region in the world.” The intention was to award the winning essay and school with two complimentary, 7-day tickets to any of the 14 beautiful Caribbean Star destinations. One of the tickets would be presented to the winning school, to be used as a prize in a raffle draw for fund-raising purposes, while the other ticket would be awarded to the child who wrote the essay.

In the final analysis, after receiving many entries, the winning student was Attainea Toulon from Convent High School. According to Sandra Scotland, Director of Marketing, Caribbean Star, “We were extremely delighted to be a sponsor for this essay competition, because it gave us a chance to achieve two objectives; that of increasing the awareness of our beautiful region and participating in a meaningful way in the education process.”

Both the student and school will be featured in Caribbean Star’s in-flight magazine, ALTITUDE. In 2003, the airline plans to continue supporting essay-writing competitions and other educational projects in schools throughout the region.
