St. Croix Archeological Museum Opens in Christiansted: The St. Croix Archeological Museum recently opened on Company Street in Christiansted, St. Croix. Through displays that exhibit ritualistic, ceremonial and utilitarian remains, the new museum takes visitors back thousands of years and reveals artifacts found on St. Croix that date back to as early as 2000 B.C. Guests of the museum can journey through time and take a close look at artifacts from the Ortoiroid people (2000 to 90 B.C.), the Saladoid people (50 to 600 A.D.), the Elenan Ostionoid people (600 to 1200 A.D.) and the Taino culture (1200 to 1492 A.D.). Shell and stone tools, ceramics, hammer and polishing stones, flaked tools, polished petaloid celts, chisles and various shell implements are just a few of the items on display. Estate Whim Plantation Museum Hosts Candlelight Concert Featuring Pianist Felipe J. Ramirez
The St. Croix Landmarks Society will host talented pianist Felipe J. Ramirez at the next Candlelight Concert at Estate Whim Plantation Museum, October 18 and 19, at 8 p.m. Internationally known Ramirez was awarded the Joel Tates Endowed Chair Scholarship at the SMU School of Music. Ramirez has performed in Spain, Europe and the United States. The popular candlelight concerts are performed under candlelit antique chandeliers in St. Croix’s 18th-century Estate Whim Plantation Greathouse. Seaborne Airlines Provides Service to Old San Juan: Seaborne Airlines recently announced the addition of a new destination to their schedule. Seaborne now provides three daily round trip flights between Old San Juan and St. Thomas. Visitors may depart St. Thomas at 7:30 a.m., noon and 3:30 p.m. and depart Old San Juan at 8:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Seaborne plans to provide service between Old San Juan and St. Croix in upcoming months.
