Fairmont Expands Deployment of Guest-Tek`s Internet Access Software

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc., a luxury hotel management company in North America, is expanding deployment of Guest-Tek`s high-speed Internet access software throughout its chain of luxury hotels and conference facilities.

While Fairmont`s initial deployment focused on meeting areas, guest room deployment is ongoing and will be completed by early 2002. “Guest-Tek`s proven track record, combined with its comprehensive support package, confirmed our decision to upgrade to Guest-Tek`s GlobalSuite? 3 high-speed Internet access software,” says Tim Aubrey, vice president of technology for Fairmont.
GlobalSuite? 3 complements Fairmont`s IT infrastructure strategy to function as its own application service provider (ASP) and deliver services via its own wide area network (WAN). GlobalSuite 3`s unique architecture will further leverage Fairmont`s technology investment by enabling centralized control of hotel servers, automated remote software upgrades and redundancy of systems and data.

For hoteliers and their guests, GlobalSuite offers the highest success rate in the industry for getting guests online, as well as a unique Web-based interface for hotel-controlled billing. “GlobalSuite 3 signifies an exciting step forward in connectivity software, as it offers guests the fast and easy connectivity they have come to expect, while offering Fairmont a reliable solution that includes the best mix of manageability and customization,” says Johanne Audet, vice president of product management at Guest-Tek.

Guest-Tek`s GlobalSuite 3 software can be deployed on a variety of network platforms including switched Ethernet, DSL and wireless networks. GlobalSuite 3 has been certified compatible with Cisco Systems` Ethernet switching and LRE platforms.  Fairmont uses Cisco wired and wireless networking equipment.

Fairmont`s relationship with Guest-Tek dates back to 1997, when the Fairmont Palliser became the first hotel in Canada to offer a fully-integrated broadband solution to guests.

“Over the years, we`ve continued to partner with Guest-Tek in delivering high-speed Internet access, and found their solution has consistently exceeded our expectations,” says Aubrey. Fairmont was one of the first hotel groups to take full control of their high-speed Internet service offering, countering the unsuccessful revenue-share model.

Aubrey adds he has been particularly pleased by Guest-Tek`s smooth, quick installations. “We`ve been consistently impressed with Guest-Tek`s ability to deploy customized solutions to our properties both quickly and with tremendous flexibility.” He points out that within a three-month period alone in the fall of 2000, Guest-Tek deployed its service in more than 25 Fairmont hotels across North America.
