Pegasus Solutions has recently signed agreements with four travel-related Web sites in the United Kingdom to provide online hotel reservations capabilities.
are now Powered by Pegasus, and Ebookers.com and LateRooms.com soon will be. Through the agreements, Pegasus will provide the Web sites with a direct connection to the CRS of the 42,000 hotels represented in Pegasus` Online Distribution Database. As a result, the Web sites` customers can view detailed property information, rates and photos, and secure instant real-time reservations 24 hours a day.
Ranging from luxurious five-star hotels to independent family-run properties, more than 40 percent of the hotels in Pegasus` database are located outside the United States. theplacetostay.co.uk and direct-hotels.co.uk are now live with Pegasus` technology.
Kevin Short, Pegasus` senior vice president of operations and reservation services, said, “I am pleased that we are able to bring more U.K.-based Web sites into our network. We steadily work to increase the opportunity for online bookings for our hotel customers, and increasing our market in Europe ensures our hotels continue to receive exposure throughout the world.”
Through its customers` affiliates, more than 1,000 Web sites are Powered by Pegasus. Other U.K.-based third-party Web sites that are Powered by Pegasus include ASE.net, Hotelnet.co.uk, LastMinute.com, HotelHub.net, Dreamticket.com and VirginTravelstore.com.
The research firm PhoCusWright reports that the fastest growing segment of consumer online travel buying is hotels with 51 percent of online buyers reserving hotel rooms, up 39 percent from one year ago. PhoCusWright also reports that by 2002, online travel will represent 15% of all travel. PhoCusWright also reports the European online travel market is expected to more than triple from an estimated $2.9 billion worth of bookings in 2000 to more than $10.9 billion in 2002.
