Travelers Can Pay Economy Motel Room Prices for Internet Luxury

31st Mar 2000

No longer will guests have to pay for a luxury hotel room just to have Internet access. Super 8 Motels has teamed up with CAIS Internet and VirtuaLINC to create a high speed Internet service that will allow Super 8® guests to connect to the Internet quickly and easily. The announcement was made at the chain’s International Convention today in Nashville.

“High speed Internet access is one of the amenities most requested by many of today’s travelers,” said Super 8 Motels President and CEO Robert N. Weller. “We expect high speed Internet access to become as common an amenity as continental breakfast or pay-per-view movies,” Weller said.
Dialing into the Internet from a Super 8 room will be easy and convenient. Instead of tapping into a standard telephone line, guests plug into an in-room desk jack which is fed directly to a server. There is no dial-up process and guests can surf the web at speeds 175 times faster than with a typical 56k modem connection. The daily rate for all-day Internet access is $9.95.

“This is a very unique type of Internet provider,” said Super 8’s Vice President of Field Marketing Linda Arnold. “Unlike other delivery methods, this service allows guests to talk on the phone or watch television while using a laptop at the same time. In addition the service is much faster than that of typical Internet providers. Once again, this clearly illustrates how Super 8 and other Cendant subsidiaries are benefiting through the convergence of off-line and online businesses; a strategy that is being spearheaded by Cendant Internet Group along with the corporation’s Travel Division.”

Super 8 Motels, Inc., founded in America’s heartland in 1974, is the world’s largest economy lodging chain with more than 1,900 motels and 116,000 rooms throughout the United States and Canada. Motel locations and on-line reservations are available on the Super 8 Internet web page at

Super 8’s toll-free reservations number in North America is 1-800-800-8000.
