Delta Air Lines Online Skyathlon Promotion.

Delta Air Lines` new Skyathlon Olympic-themed Web site offers online athletes worldwide the thrill of competing (from the comfort of their own home) while rewarding them for learning about delta.com and utilizing Delta products and services.

Registered Skyathletes earn virtual medals, which act as entries, by visiting the site and interacting with its many enticing features.
Skyathletes are encouraged to visit the site frequently for the latest Delta sale fares and bonus miles offers, partner specials and off-the-wall Olympic-themed articles and interactive polls. Participants also earn medals for purchasing Delta tickets, joining the SkyMiles program, enrolling in one of Delta`s e-mail programs and using other Delta products and services.

The more medals accumulated, the more chances customers have to win daily, weekly, and monthly Skyathlon prizes. Daily prizes include round-trip tickets to anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States or Latin America. Weekly Skyathlete winners will take home coveted elite SkyMiles Medallion memberships—usually reserved for only the most frequent Delta flyers. Medallion benefits include mileage bonuses, complimentary upgrades, special check-in privileges, preferred seating and boarding and special member service phone lines. Five Grand prize winners will enjoy exclusive travel packages for two to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City consisting of air and ground transportation, hotel accommodations, two tickets to two Olympic events per day plus food and beverages.

“The Olympic Games capture a world-wide audience; however, very few people get to personally experience the Games as spectators or participants,” said Steve Scheper, Delta`s managing director of e-Business, Business-to-Consumer. “With Skyathlon, we`ve created a venue where customers can be entertained and receive prizes while using the site`s many features.”

The 2002 Olympic Winter Games will take place in Salt Lake City, Feb. 8-24, 2002, and the site will operate Oct. 25, 2001, through Feb. 28, 2002.

“Skyathlon is an interactive way to participate in Delta`s Olympic sponsorship and earn attractive prizes,” added Scheper. “It also highlights Delta`s advances in technology that put our customers in more control of their travel while making their travel experience as convenient as possible.”
Medals accumulated by Skyathletes are displayed and updated on a real-time basis. Registered participants can earn a maximum of 4,000 medals per day. Participation is free. Winners will be selected in random drawings and notified by e-mail or USPS within 30 days.
