Freight Community Gets Dedicated Travel Site

Logistics and transportation management services provider Transplace, Inc, has announced the launch of Transplace Travel, a full service travel agency established to serve the entire freight transportation community by providing significant discounts on airlines, hotels, rental cars, as well as vacation and leisure packages.

Transplace Travel customers can book all their travel needs via its state-of-the-art online booking engine or be assisted by professional agents via a toll-free number.

Transplace utilizes a network of 5,000 carriers to transport freight for its logistics customers. “Our freight carriers and customers spend tremendous amounts on business travel and we intend to continually negotiate deals that will reduce their total travel expenditures,” said Michael Ellenburg, Executive Vice President of Fleet/Procurement Services for Transplace.
The Fleet Services division of Transplace helps subscribing members reduce total procurement expenditures through programs designed to offer discounts on such things as tires, truck and trailer parts, fuel and lubricants, tools, shop supplies and office products—many of these items can be purchased through Transplace`s Marketplace which offers over 100,000 products. “Adding Transplace Travel to the mix will be a big benefit for freight carriers of all sizes—no one likes to pay more than they have to for travel expenditures. The combined purchasing power of Transplace will ensure significant value for all who participate,” adds Ellenburg.

Transplace currently manages over 1.2 million truckload and intermodal movements and 5.7 million less-than-truckload shipments per year. Using its industry leading Dense Network Efficiency(SM) (DNE) platform, Transplace enables collaborative transportation planning and execution across multiple customers, to reduce costs in transportation, distribution, warehousing and procurement. Transplace produces over 2,000 CCM`s per day, bringing further cost savings and operating efficiency to both logistics customers and freight carriers.
Additionally, Transplace provides subscribing freight carriers Fleet/Procurement Services through an Internet Marketplace for the procurement of goods and support services. Forbes magazine recently named Transplace to the prestigious “Best of the Web: B2B” list in Logistics and Transportation.

Transplace was formed in July 2000 through merger of the six logistics business units of the nation`s largest publicly held truckload carriers: Covenant Transport, Inc., J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., M.S. Carriers, Inc. (since merged with Swift Transportation Co., Inc.), Swift Transportation Co., Inc., U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc. and Werner Enterprises, Inc.
