Lufthansa has signed an alliance with Travelocity.com to expand Internet sales in the US, the UK, Canada and Germany.
The alliance will allow Lufthansa to use the local Web sites of Fort Worth, Texas-based Travelocity to reach about 27 million registered customers, allowing the carrier to advertise routes, fares and products on Travelocity`s Web sites.
The airline didn`t disclose financial details.
The carrier plans to sell one out of four tickets over the Internet by 2005. Lufthansa has said selling tickets on line will save it EUR100 million (US$85.1 million) a year in 2004. Savings come from cutting out commissions to travel agents and getting rid of distribution costs for paper tickets.
