Jeremy Kennedy has been appointed general manager of Greenwoods Estate, the new health spa and retreat which opens in June in Stock in Essex. Jeremy is a highly experienced hotel general manager who joins from the Manor of Groves Hotel and Golf Club and whose health credentials include the prestigious Hale Clinic in London. Brook Hotels who own and operate hotels across the UK will operate and manage the property.
When it opens in June, Greenwoods will be the first luxury health retreat to open in Essex. As a 39 room five star property Greenwoods will be targeting the top end of the leisure and corporate market.
å“Weå‘ve had a fantastic response so far especially from corporate meeting planners. Theyå‘re always looking for somewhere new and they love the sound of Greenwoods. Our location is superb for the City of London as weå‘re only 30 miles east but set in beautiful, quiet countryside,å” said Kathleen West, owner and chief executive of Greenwoods Estate. The property is also only 20 miles from Stansted making it accessible to the rest of the UK and Europe.
The Journeyman Company is handling sales and marketing for the property as part of a team put together by marketing communications consultancy, Focuss Communications Ltd.
Building began just over a year ago following extensive efforts to secure planning permission as Greenwoods is a listed property. The building team has taken special care not to disrupt the roots of several mature trees, a hedgerow has been preserved and the fabric of the original Georgian building and its Victorian extension has barely been altered.
“Working within the planning guidelines was not a problem as we fully intended to keep the character of the original buildings. There are many original features that we’ve been able to preserve and they contribute to the atmosphere that we want Greenwoods to have. A visit to Greenwoods will feel less like a stay in a hotel and more like a weekend at a wonderful, luxurious country house,” adds Kathleen West.
Kathleen’s sister and partner in the project, Eileen Martin, has taken the lead in developing the spa. “We knew exactly how we wanted the Greenwoods spa to look and feel. The treatments will include all the latest health and beauty vogues from Ayurveda to Botox as well as traditional face and body treatments.” The spa contains a 20 metre heated indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre including an exercise studio where classes including yoga and Pilates will be offered, sauna, steam and ice rooms. There are separate, but equally luxurious, reception rooms for men and women.
