Terra Lycos Mexico, a subsidiary of Spanish telecom giant Telefonica`s Internet business has launched an online travel agency, Rumbo.com.mx, according to a report in Mexican financial daily El Economista.
The Mexican web site, launched recently, has been designed as a launching pad for online travel services to be provided by Terra throughout Latin America, El Economista business columnist Tomas de la Rosa reported. The site is competing directly with online travel agencies Despegar.com and Viajo.com, and with web sites operated by leading Mexican airlines Aeromexico and Mexicana.
Rumbo.com.mx is a joint venture between Terra and U.S.-based Amadeus Global Travel Distribution. The site`s major marketing partner is Barcelo Hotels & Resorts, which operates more than 100 hotels throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia.
