Eastern Mediterranean travel agents will soon be able to book ferry operators online, following an agreement between Galileo Hellas S.A., the region`s leading GDS, and Anite Travel Systems, Europe`s leading e-travel systems pioneer.
Galileo Hellas S.A. has chosen Anite - also world leaders in ferry and cruise systems - to deliver the region`s first online portal for ferry bookings, by linking ferry operator`s systems to Galileo Hellas S.A.`s GDS. This will enable agents in Greece, Italy and the Balkans for the first time to book the region`s ferry operators online using a dedicated browser-based front-end.
Powering the breakthrough is Anite`s unique @COM Dynamic Business Architecture, groundbreaking new systems technology enabling travel providers to intelligently sell across multiple distribution channels. @COM allows providers to link separate distribution systems within one integrated business module, and also simplifies and reduces the cost of adding further channels in future.
Due for launch in the second quarter of this year, Galileo Hellas S.A.`s breakthrough will begin pilot testing at the end of May 2001. At this stage, the system will offer online bookings from two of the region`s leading ferry operators, SuperFast Ferries and Blue Star Ferries, both users of Anite ferry reservation systems. In addition, the breakthrough means even ferry operators not harnessing Anite systems will be able to sell through the GDS using Anite`s solution.
Established in 1991 by Olympic Airways, Galileo Hellas S.A. is behind Greece`s leading GDS, with over 1000 agents connected across the company`s private network. In addition, the company is committed to providing its customers with solutions to enable them to distribute their products and services to the Greek travel industry.
Commented George Maroutsos, Galileo Hellas S.A.`s commercial director: “We wanted an e-commerce provider with expert knowledge of ferry and cruise booking systems to fulfil our ambitious strategy of offering every travel component that agents in the region wish to sell.
“Anite`s expertise and unrivalled technological advances were the key factors behind our decision.”
Said Anite Travel Systems` director of business development Tony Hird: “The agreement highlights Anite`s position as world leaders in ferry and cruise reservations technology, and as the pioneering company enabling ferry and cruise operators to sell across all new distribution channels.”
