New hotel for London’s South Bank

The biggest and brightest hotel and meeting space to be built in London in 40 years looks set to put a huge smile on the face of the rejuvenated South Bank.

Londoners have spent the last year gazing in fascination as the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London emerges from the ashes of the former concrete and glass County Hall annexe. The old building - once voted the ugliest in the Capital - was the last remaining eyesore to be banished from an area now enjoying a new lease of life.

The new building - due to open in early 2010 - is set to become the city’s premier meeting place. Featuring a Grand Ballroom big enough to house an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and over 30 flexible meeting rooms, Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London promises to cater for a multitude of events.

“Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is undoubtedly the most exciting new venue London has seen for decades,” says General Manager Andrew Swindells.

From an intimate boardroom meeting for eight people to a cocktail reception for 1,250, the hotel’s facilities will boast ‘fully-flexible’ function spaces and one of the largest Grand Ballrooms in the Capital.

“We expect the hotel will be a major draw-card for events of all sizes, and become a favourite of meeting and event planners,” says Swindells.

Construction on the site began in November 2007 and today, the first seven floors of the 15-storey building are in place. The large atrium, allowing panoramic views across Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament, is taking shape. Below ground, the extensive meeting and events facilities are nearing completion.

The Grand Ballroom will be completely pillarless, offering unobstructed views of events and making it perfect for large awards ceremonies or gala balls. The penthouses will be an ideal day time venue for smaller meetings, with stunning views across London.

Additional facilities at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London will include a business centre and lounges, fitness centre with swimming pool, full service gym and an extensive spa. With 1,021 bedrooms available, delegates will be comfortably accommodated by a range of choices, from superior rooms through to exclusive penthouses.
