The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) has named Josef Forstmayr President-elect for 2010-2012. Forstmayr is a director on the Jamaica Tourist Board and Managing Director at Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Jamaica, which won “World’s Leading Villa” at the 2008 World Travel Awards (pictured left).
Before entering his two-year term, he will go through a one-year initiation as President-elect in preparation for his role as CHTA President.
Forstmayr is the Second Vice President of CHTA and was voted Caribbean Hotelier of the Year in 2007 and was President of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association from June 2001-2003.
Forstmayr began his career in 1979 as Assistant Manager at Coconut Cove in Negril, later moving to the Tryall Golf and Beach Hotel as Resident Manager. He served as General Manager at the Trident Villas and Hotel in Port Antonio, Jamaica and then as Managing Director at Round Hill Hotel & Villas.
Forstmayr was born in Steyr, Austria. He attended the University of Salzburg where he studied Economic Sciences and Tourism and is fluent in four languages - German, English, French and Italian.
He has grown into a highly-respected and popular leader in Jamaica’s hospitality industry, and has used the success of Round Hill to initiate sustainable projects within the local parish.
Members of the CHTA Board of Directors selected Forstmayr as President-elect at the AGM last week during the “Taste of The Caribbean” culinary competition which took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The elected officers who will work with Forstmayr during his presidency will be chosen at the Annual General Meeting in 2010.
