BA starts Maldives and Sharm services

British Airways has announced its first ever flights to the Maldives, with the launch of three-times weekly services from Gatwick to Male from 25 October.

The flag carrier is also launching services to Sharm El Sheikh on the same day, with the flights to be operated by three class Boeing 777 aircraft.

BA has also announced it is pulling its Gatwick to New York service from 25 October due to weak demand.

“These new routes will be great assets to the BA network and a real winner with customers,” said BA head of UK & Ireland sales, Richard Tams. “They are both perfect holiday destinations known for their great beaches and fantastic diving.”

He said both routes were expected to perform well, with tickets already on sale on BA’s website - along with a “wide range of good value hotels from independent properties to luxury five star resorts” in both destinations.
