AirTran expands at General Mitchell

AirTran Airways has announced its expansion to additional gates at General Mitchell International Airport, increasing to six gates on Concourse C. These gates will be used to support 34 peak-day flights, a 57 percent growth in the airline’s Milwaukee operations since last year, making AirTran Airways the fastest growing airline at the airport. Earlier this month, the carrier began flights to Branson, Mo., and Minneapolis/St. Paul. The carrier will also begin nonstop service to Denver and St. Louis on May 21. Additional nonstop flights from Milwaukee to New York (LaGuardia), Baltimore/Washington, San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, and Tampa/St. Petersburg are planned for the summer. These new gates will be used to accommodate this significant increase in flights.

“Our new gates make it easier for us to serve our growing number of Milwaukee passengers,” said Tad Hutcheson, vice president of marketing and sales for AirTran Airways. “With our recent expansion in operations, and as we continue to expand in Milwaukee, we want our passengers to experience the best in convenience and comfort, both at the airport and on their flight.”

AirTran Airways now occupies six of the eight gates added to “C” Concourse as part of a multi-million dollar expansion project at General Mitchell International Airport nearly two years ago. The airline moved into the “C” Concourse expansion last summer.

In addition to continuing its expansion in Milwaukee, the airline announced plans last week to equip all of its aircraft with Wi-Fi Internet access. AirTran Airways will be the first major airline to equip its entire fleet with Internet access by mid-summer. This latest feature is in addition to XM Satellite Radio, Business Class and reserved seating on every flight.
