Six Senses to open Jordan spa

Six Senses is preparing to open the Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa. In an extraordinary and rugged location in Jordan, the new property is just minutes from the Dead Sea and a one-hour drive west of the capital of Amman.Sitting in a rocky ravine 264 metres below sea level, the resort features hot mineral spring waterfalls. Legend has it that Herod the Great bathed in the waters, and the therapudic benefits of the hot springs, has continued to lure visitors over the centuries.

Today, visitors from around the world mingle with regular patrons to the hot springs and thermal pools, with the Evason Ma’In entrusted as custodian of the public portion, whilst retaining the therapeutic falls at the resort and the Six Senses Spa for the exclusive enjoyment of its guests.

Originally constructed in the 1980’s, the main resort building has completed a twelve million dollar make-over to convert it to an Evason. This includes a new free-standing Six Senses Spa complex that will focus on the properties of the mineral-rich waters, offering Healing Mineral and Dead Sea therapies such as salt scrubs and the famed mud wraps. The spa will also feature an a la carte menu of Six Senses signature treatments including the renowned Sensory Journey.

The purpose-built Six Senses Spa complex, with its own thermal waterfall and pool, has been chosen as the best environment friendly architectural project in a competition organized by the Jordanian Association of Engineers. The award recognized the great effort contributed to the project by the Jordanian firm of DARB Architects & Engineers.

The reconfigured accommodations offer ninety-seven deluxe guestrooms and suites, including two Royal Suites. Several suites feature personal spa facilities. Décor reflects the Evason concept of fresh and colourful furnishings focusing on the use of natural and environmentally friendly materials.

Dining and refreshment outlets include a Chef’s Table - a concept proving overwhelmingly popular in many Six Senses properties, and a traditional Jordanian tray-restaurant with plump cushions upon carpeted floors.

The Wine Cellar offers regular degustation dinners and tastings. A Brown Bar and a White Bar have been created, with a feature being an impressive array of local olives and olive specialties including fresh-pressed oils. Alfresco dining beside the newly installed swimming pool overlooks the hot spring waterfalls. Wood-fired oven specialties and a pizza bar are featured.

Each evening, as another glorious Jordanian day turns to twilight and the sun slips behind the Dead Sea, the place to be is on the terrace, from which vantage point the lights of Jerusalem glow in the distance and a myriad stars twinkle overhead.

The LIFE (Learning-Innovative-Fun-Experiences) hosts at Evason Ma’In offer an array of fascinating excursions, most of which are day-trips. These include visits to the Dead Sea and the historic mosaic city of Madaba. An Amman city tour is a must, with its colours, smells, exotic tastes and ancient ruins. Overnight trips include the Bedouin Experience in awe-inspiring Wadi Rum and the glorious city of Petra - carved into the mountainside.

With its first opening on February 14, 2009 and a grand opening scheduled for April 2009, the total make-over of Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa has been under the direction of the Six Senses Creative team in collaboration with the leaseholder of the property, Ma’In Jordan Spa Company.
