Guoman invests millions in Royal Horseguards project

18th Century, Grade 1 listed building The Royal Horseguards is benefiting from a £16.3m investment from Guoman Hotels.

The landmark 280-bedroomed property will become the fourth Guoman Hotel when it officially joins the collection in 2009 joining Charing Cross, The Cumberland and The Tower, all central London hotels.

Guoman Hotels plan to drive an aggressive familiarisation trip programme to the property for agents and TMC’s throughout 2009 in order to maximise awareness of the property.

Sanjay Nijhawan, chief operating officer for Guoman Hotels commented, “The Royal Horseguards’ location, heritage and historical links to Whitehall and Westminster make this a truly iconic property and a prestigious addition to the Guoman Hotels collection. The Royal Horseguards will become one of the leading hotels in the Capital with its reputation for outstanding service reinforced with luxurious bedrooms and facilities.”

The refurbishment will see all 280 bedrooms across nine floors transform into state-of-the-art luxury accommodation by early 2009. Rooms will be designed to represent the regal and prestigious heritage of the property, with contemporary facilities and features.

Business and leisure guests will enjoy built-in features such as iPod docking stations in every room, free wi-fi access in guest bedrooms, surround sound, plasma TVs in the bathroom and mood lighting as standard. The bedroom balconies will also be opened up to overlook the Thames.

Highlights of the investment and refurbishment include:

  * Refurbishment of all 280 guest bedrooms to deliver a luxurious experience.

  * A new conservatory restaurant is planned to be built onto the terrace to offer a private area for guests to dine and enjoy views across the Thames.

  * The addition of a Guoman Club Lounge - a standard that allows executive guests to work or relax within discreet and private surroundings.

  * A refurbishment in excess of £1m for the meetings and events space at the renowned One Whitehall Place. Connected to The Royal Horseguards, One Whitehall Place is one of London’s most prestigious conference and banqueting venues.

The Grade I listed building is still today part of the Crown estate.
