Northwest backs Habitat for Humanity

Northwest Airlines has announced it is proud to be the official airline of Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Detroit, Memphis and Minneapolis/St. Paul. In Detroit, Northwest is the official airline of Habitat for Humanity of Western Wayne; in Memphis of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis and in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

“We enjoy working with Northwest Airlines, who has been a long time sponsor of our home building program,” said Susan Haigh, president of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “Beyond offering sponsorship dollars and volunteers, Northwest Airlines employees have made deep and long lasting relationships with Habitat families, truly exemplifying the meaning of community. Naming Northwest Airlines as our Official Airline seemed like the next logical step in our on-going partnership.”

2007 marked the 10th year of Northwest-sponsored Habitat houses in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Northwest Airlines volunteers from all parts of the company, customers, community leaders and others have come together to build Habitat homes in the Twin Cities and, starting last year, also in Detroit and Memphis.

“Northwest brings people home. That is what we do very well in our business every day but also do so through Habitat for Humanity. Each of us understand that powerful sense of being home - a place where one can be safe, comfortable and cared for,” said Tim Campbell, vice president - regional airline operations and Twin Cities Habitat board member. “Northwest volunteers, both active and retired, come together from all over our airline to help deserving families realize the dream of home ownership. We are especially pleased that Northwest has developed unique, long-term relationships with its previous Habitat homeowner families that keep them returning to help us with our subsequent builds and other volunteer activities. We are very proud of our partnership with Habitat to build homes, create community and transform lives.”

In the interest of further investment in the major communities Northwest serves, NWA is happy to announce a current Habitat build in Minneapolis/St. Paul and a future build in Memphis.

The build dates run through July and August when the house will be complete. Included in the events surrounding the current Minneapolis/St. Paul build, are appearances today by former Minnesota Wild Hockey players, Brad Bombardir (currently the Wild’s Director of Community Partnerships) and Darby Hendrickson (currently a Wild television analyst and studio host on FSN North).

NWA is a partial sponsor of the build of a single-family home in Memphis that is part of Habitat’s Fall build schedule.

Northwest was a sponsor and also took part in a Habitat partial build in Detroit, earlier this summer.
