Amadeus signs major Cuban deal

Amadeus has signed an agreement with the Cuban Ministry for Tourism to distribute over 200 hotels represented by the Gran Caribe, Cubanacán and Isla Azœl hotel chains. 

These groups, which account for more than 70% of Cuba’s hotel capacity, have placed their trust in Amadeus as a distribution channel to reach travel agencies and increase their market penetration. Today, the more than 94,000 travel agencies using Amadeus around the world will have access to these hotels.

“Distributing our hotels globally through the Amadeus system is a great opportunity for us. The company’s unique capacity and global reach will allow us reach new customers,” said Maria Elena López Reyes, Vice Minister for Tourism.

 

Furthermore, Amadeus will provide Gran Caribe, Cubanacán and Isla Azœl with management and distribution technology to help these hotel chains to optimise internal processes and expand the visibility of their offering to a worldwide audience.

For the distribution through their own websites, the chains will use the Amadeus Booking Engine, an internet booking engine that updates room, rates and availability information in real-time - for both consumers and corporations or travel agencies with negotiated fares which prefer to book online - and immediate confirmation of the reservation.

Phillipe Vignau, General Manager of Amadeus Hotel Business Group in Spain, said “The incorporation of more than 200 properties from these three well-known Cuban chains, which represent 70% of the hotel offering on the island, adds value to Amadeus travel agents who can now book these hotels more easily.”


“The solutions we will provide to these three chains will help to increase the efficiency and visibility of all their properties. This agreement is a clear example of how a client can take advantage of the synergies of the integration of our solutions for the hotel industry which cover the whole process, from showing the offering to the potential client until the client leaves the hotel, including the internal management of the property, occupancy analysis and forecasting,” said Mr. Vignau.
